NAfCOAST project is aiming at developing an Earth Observation operational tools for coastal ecosystems mapping, monitoring and assessment of the north African countries based on time series information that could be easily achieved by earth observation rather than other localized or limited coverage source. 

GMES and Africa is an enabler framework for the northern African region to synergy and integrate to develop such operational services for the region. 

This will initiate cooperation, dissemination of information and regulations that support local community and support future plans for sustainable development in this action implementation region or could be a good practice for other regions in Africa in future.

Coastline of the Southern Mediterranean Sea 

• This coastal zone is wealthy with natural resources.
• More than 140 cities distributed on this coastline that accommodate more than 170 Million inhabitants.
• The coastal line of the Mediterranean Sea is rich with diverse ecosystems and flora species, which is estimated at over 25,000 species.
